Speaker: Elizabeth Norton

Topic: Anne of Cleves: Henry VIII’s Discarded Queen

Venue: Vinson Lecture Theatre

Time: 10:30-11:30 Sunday 17 September

Talk Summary:

Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII, is a neglected figure, disparaged as the ‘Flanders mare’. Yet her life, before, during and after her marriage to the Tudor monarch, is a fascinating one, which had major consequences for both England and Europe. Elizabeth Norton reassesses the importance of this unjustly ‘discarded’ queen.
