Speaker: Katherine Pangonis
Topic: Lost Cities of the Mediterranean
Venue: Ondaatje Lecture Theatre, Radcliffe Centre
Time: 10:30-11:30, Friday 15 September
Talk Summary:
Though now somewhat neglected, five major cities of the classical world – Tyre, Carthage, Syracuse, Ravenna and Antioch – all rose to remarkable prominence, and their stories embrace such extraordinary figures as Alexander the Great, Nebuchadnezzar, and Archimedes, and were enveloped by the Roman, Arab and Norman conquests. Katherine Pangonis offers new perspectives on these ancient sites.
